On Thursday 15th September the first Viktoria´s opponent of the Europa League came to the Doosan Arena and it was AS Roma. The coach Roman Pivarník made three changes in the starting line-up. Petr Bolek was given a chance to be a goalkeeper for this match, Ergys Kace and Martin Zeman played in the midfield.

The beginning of the match was not good for Viktoria at all. On 3 minutes Stephan El Shaarawy run alone on the left side and Aleš Matějů stopped him by a foul. The referee Ruddy Buquet directively pointed to the penalty sign. Diego Perotti scored and Roma were in lead 0:1. Viktoria were not shocked by the match development and increased the pace. On 9 minutes Kace had an effort on goal but he only hit the goalkeeper Becker. Michal Ďuriš´s header was not successful moments later but on 11 minutes the Doosan Arena burst out of joy. Martin Zeman passed the ball to Marek Bakoš who scored – 1:1! Viktoria maintained the high pace of the match and they attacked their opponent high on the pitch and sometimes they wanted to win the fights just too much. Aleš Matějů and Michal Ďuriš were quickly shown a yellow card. Roma were not tender as well. Kopic and Ďuriš made troubles to Roma´s defence and they stopped them by a foul, too. On 32 minutes AS Roma´s captain Radja Nainggolan shot from distance and hit an upright. The result did not change until the end of the half and the result before the break was 1:1.

The coach Spalletti sent Edin Džeko to join the game, the player who has some experience with the Czech league. The atmosphere could be even cut. Marek Bakoš felt it when he was fouled. On 50 minutes Petr Bolek performed an excellent save and the following attempt of Shaarawy was blocked by Viktoria´s defensive line. The coach Spalletti felt that a tie here is too little for his team so on 71 minutes he made some substitutions and Francesco Totti appeared on the pitch. At the same time Roman Pivarník sent Milan Petržela on the pitch instead of Martin Zeman. 6 minutes later Viktoria´s coach boosted the offensive power of his team when Ďuriš was replaced by Krmenčík. In the final minutes Roma were better than Plzeň and their passes were looking mostly for Edin Džeko. On 82 minutes were close to celebrating when Milan Petržela crossed the ball to Marek Bakoš, nevertheless, he lacked shooting accuracy. Tomáš Poznar also appeared on the pitch for the last 10 minutes. Plzeň tried hard but none of the teams added a goal so the score remained.
