A hit of the round between Viktoria Plzeň and Sparta Praha was played on Sunday 15th April at the Doosan Arena in Plzeň. The coach Pavel Vrba made six changes in the starting line-up. Kozáčik, Řezník, Havel, Kolář, Petržela and Krmenčík all returned in the starting line-up.
The goalkeeper Nita was busy right at the beginning of the match when Roman Hubník headed the ball after a corner. However, the goalkeeper was ready. On 9 minutes the visitors appeared in the first promising chance and scored! Josef Šural centred the ball in front of the gate when Václav Kadlec received it and immediately placed it behind Kozáčik – 0-1. 2 minutes later Srdjan Plavšič quickly had an effort on goal and when shooting on goal his attempt hit Řezník´s leg and flew in the gate – 0-2. On 27 minutes Milan Petržela was injured and had to leave the pitch, he was replaced by Martin Zeman. Viktorians changed the score on 30 minutes when Jan Kopic turned the ball from a corner and Radim Řezník shot it into an empty gate – 1-2. Plzeň´s offensive power got stronger and Sparta did not have so many opportunities to be dangerous in front of the opponent´s goalkeeper. On 40 minutes Michael Krmenčík had an effort on goal in the 6-yard box but failed as well as David Limberský later. The half-time score was 1-2 for Sparta.
Daniel Kolář did not participate in the 2nd half
because he was substitute by a pure forward Marek Bakoš. On 52 minutes Viktoria
made the match more dramatic when they perfectly played a corner. Martin Zeman
kicked the ball to Tomáš Hořava who scored! The score was equal 2-2. 3 minutes
later Matúš Kozáčik supported his team by a perfect save. The emotions on the
pitch were in the air and the players in white jersies gathered round the
referee more often than earlier. In the following minutes the game optically
equalized, moreover the visitors had more chances. On 75 minutes Pavel Vrba
made the third substitution – Michael Krmenčík was replaced by Tomáš Chorý.
With the end approaching the match was full of personal fights but both teams
dealt well with them. The fans did not see any goal until the end of the match
and the final result was 2-2.
