Today our captain Lukáš Hejda extended his contract with Viktoria. He also took time for an interview for the club´s website, in which he talked about his dream and the start of the Pilsen spring on Saturday, telling the fans, ”The atmosphere is on you, Viktorians!”

"It´s another step in my career. Viktoria is playing excellent football, they will fight again in the European Cups and for the top of the Gambrinus League. I come with respect, but at the same time a great desire to make it among such quality footballers," said the 22-year-old Lukáš Hejda after his arrival to Viktoria Plzen in 2012.

Would you say you´ve made it? (smile)

I would say yes (smile). I didn´t even realise when I said it at the time that I could be here for so long. I took it to mean that it would be extremely difficult to stay in a club like this for such a long time, so I´m extremely happy and grateful for that. I was expecting that I could be here for three, four, five years at the most and I´d go back to the house. That´s what I had painted in my head, but I didn´t think I would be here this long. I had such success here... I painted it completely differently and I´m so glad it turned out the way it did.

You won five titles with Viktoria. You played in all the European Cups. Is there anything you still want to do with them?

I´d like to win a cup with them! That´s the only thing I´m missing. I want the cup so badly and I think we´ve got a good start this season. It´s my big goal for this season as well. It´s the only thing I´m missing in the Czech league.

Which of the five titles is the most important for you?

Definitely the last one, because it was an unbelievable ride. Nobody, but really nobody, counted on us. I enjoyed it all the more. From a personal point of view, it was the best season of my career. I scored goals, I played pretty much everything. From the first game to the last game, we were a perfect fit. I´ll remember this year for the rest of my life.

What does it mean to you to be the captain of Viktoria?

It´s something special. Really great players have worn the captain´s armband here in Pilsen. I was chosen by the cabinet, and that made me very happy. It´s a great award at the club for the work I´ve done here and I appreciate it very much.

You scored your first goal for Viktoria on 19 April 2013 in the net of Příbram, where you had been playing before. How do you remember it?

For a while I was thinking which goal was the first, but as you reminded me, I remember it. I think it was from a standard, I knocked it into the empty one at the back post. It was euphoric for me at the time. I wasn´t playing much at the time, I was just jumping in and picking up first starts and minutes. A goal always helps and I remember that goal very well. Plus, it was the winning goal.

What is your favourite moment in a Viktoria jersey?

When I received the trophy during the last title and the Champions League. I can´t single out just one moment in the Champions League. Every match, the jingle in big stadiums, that´s the most for me.

At the moment you have 283 league starts. You looking for a three-hundred and a legends club?

It´s been kind of all over the place the last six months. It´s in my subconscious that it´s slowly approaching. I don´t have many games left. They say few, but you know how football is. But yes, I won´t say no. That three hundred game league record is beautiful and I´d like to achieve it. Especially in a Viktoria jersey!

Another interesting statistic is the club´s league goalscorers. You´re 72 goals short, do you think you can do that too? (laughs)

I don´t think so. (laughs) I think I score quite a lot of goals for a stopper. I´ve got something like twenty-seven, twenty-eight goals in the league now. I would say that´s a decent number for a stopper. I´d like to make it to thirty for sure! Thirty would be nice. I don´t think I´ll make it to 100. (laughs)

You´re a native of Bílovec. Do you ever visit your home village?

Not much, unfortunately. I rarely get there, because we have a really busy schedule. It´s just far away. When I finally get there, it´s a detour. One or two days at most. You only get to see your immediate family. I get home practically twice a year.

You got a glimpse of big football in nearby Ostrava, where we will play the 17th round on Tuesday. Is it still a bit special for you?

I´m sure it is. Baník raised me for big football, for which I am grateful. Every time we play Baník, it´s something special for me. I still think of it a bit differently than other games. Plus, we always did well against Baník and Viktoria, and I´m just glad for that.

How do you like playing with young defenders like Robin Hranac, Sampson Dweh or Honza Paluska?

In the last few games I got into a position where I play centre-half and I´m much more comfortable there. Robin surprised me a lot. He´s gone up extremely well. He´s got all the makings of a great footballer. The same with Honza Paluska. He still has time because he is young, but as I said in the summer before the start of the preparation. I´m shocked. He is a mature player for his age and he will be a great footballer in the future. Sampson, he´s a loose cannon. (Laughs) But he´s a driven and very good back. I play well with all of them and we work well together. We get along and everybody around me is a fast player and that suits me. (laughs) It makes my job easier and I´m happy for that.

Pilsen Spring starts on Saturday. Are you looking forward to the league start?

,,Everyone in the cabin is looking forward to it. Preparation, it´s just not the same. Preparatory matches don´t have the same intensity. There´s always something missing. Everybody´s looking forward to the league games, especially here. We´re looking forward to a full stadium, the people are always driving us here. Everyone enjoys that. The break wasn´t extremely long, but you miss the adrenaline. Games where practically everything is on the line. I can say for the whole team that we are really looking forward to the start of the league. And the atmosphere is on you, Victorians!"
