Miroslav Koubek becomes the new head coach of FC Viktoria Plzeň. The renowned football expert returns to the Viktorian bench after 8 years. He signed a one-year contract at Doosan Arena.

Miroslav Koubek returns to a well-known setting, as he already operated in Doosan arena twice in the past. During his last engagement, he won the league title with the Viktorians and also managed to get the prestigious Czech Super Cup.

“Miroslav Koubek is the new coach of FC Viktoria Plzeň. We made this decision based on his indisputable expert qualities, experience and also the style in which the teams under his reign present themselves,” confirms the club’s CEO Adolf Šádek. The new coach will take over the team on 19th June, the date when summer pre-season training officially starts. “However, we are already working together intensively as we are building the squad for the new season,” adds Šádek.

“I deeply appreciate the offer from Viktoria. It is a way to appreciate my work and I’m glad we agreed to this deal. I have still the hunger for work and for success and there’s a great challenge ahead of us all,” says Miroslav Koubek. Of course, he also likes to remember his previous work in the western Bohemia.

“We celebrated a huge success together, when we won the champions title. These are the memories one cannot forget. I even have a tattoo to memorize this moment forever, but everybody knows that already,” says the 71-year-old expert with smile on his face. All his attention and concentration is now devoted to the pre-season training session.

“There’s a lot of work ahead of us and it’s necessary to start working immediately. We want to be as ready as possible for the coming season, because not only league matches await us, but also the European Cups preliminary rounds. For now, we will focus mainly on the quality of preparation period,” he outlines the nearest plans.

At the same time, Miroslav Koubek introduces his whole coaching staff, which will be helping him. Jan Trousil is the new assistant coach. He is a former top-class league player, as well as a former head coach of Vyškov from 2nd league. The coaching staff also consists of Marek Bakoš, Zdeněk Bečka, Matúš Kozáčik (goaltending coach) and Martin Kastner (strength and conditioning coach).

“I am looking forward to our cooperation. I feel great energy and passion for work from all of the colleagues. I am looking forward to the Viktorian fans as well, as I have only the best memories of them. Our main goal is to create as many reasons as possible for the Viktorian fans to be happy,” concludes Miroslav Koubek.


Miroslav Koubek (71) is a former league goalkeeper. He first worked as an Viktorian coach in the years 2000-2001. He triumphally returned to Štruncovy sady in the 2014/2015 season, which ended up to be victorious for Viktoria. The team under his reign also won the Super Cup. Then he coached Slavia Prague, Baník Ostrava or Hradec Králové in the recent years, which were very successful for the team. Now he returns to Pilsen once again.
