Viktoria Plzeň defeated Slovan Liberec 3:2 in their first home league match. Head coach Miroslav Koubek evaluated the team´s performance at the post-match press conference.

Coach, will you blame the team for losing a two-goal lead today?

We got three valuable points today. After the defeat, we needed to respond with a good performance, and we did that today. We quickly took a 2-0 lead at the start of the game and played great. Unfortunately, in recent games we have been making more mistakes in defence than we would like. Even today it was individual mistakes that the opponent punished mercilessly. Such periods in football sometimes come. On the other hand, we scored three goals and got a valuable victory, which we made difficult for ourselves, but the team morale was up.

An important win that helped you tune up for Ferencváros TC. What have you already found out about your opponent?

Winning is important, especially when you play at the top of the table, where every loss hurts and every point is valuable. It definitely helped us towards Ferencvárosi. We have a well-studied opponent. Yesterday I spent half a day on the analysis, and today we played Liberec. I admit that Ferencvárosi is a very good team with a high technical level.

Towards the end of the game you bet on offense and sent forward Lukáš Hejda. Weren´t you afraid of such a risk?

Yes, we wanted to put the opponent under pressure, and that´s why Lukáš Hejda joined in. Of course, our numerical advantage helped us. The goal was to send the ball into the net as much as possible. It´s great that we have players with a typology that allows us to play that way.

How do you evaluate the performance of Pavel Šulc, who also worked honestly towards the back today?

I consider Pavel Šulc to be the best player on the pitch today. Physically, he always performs well, even when he is not playing well. He also raised his game today. He had a period in the preparation when he had problems with his achilles, which affected him. He didn´t complete the first phase of the preparation, so maybe he is starting slower, but I am satisfied with his performance today.
