At the post-match press conference, head coach Miroslav Koubek answered the questions of journalists and evaluated the team´s performance and prospects for the rematch.
Coach, how would you comment on the 0:1 defeat?
The result gives us hope for the rematch. Of course it won´t be easy, but our goal is to turn it in our favor. We believe the chance is there.
Do you regret the first 20 minutes when you let yourself be pushed?
Yes, we regret that. Ferencváros surprised us with a different typology of players and a different style of play than they are usually used to. They probably figured it would work for us. They didn´t include their two best wingers in the lineup and instead relied on power wingers Varga and Saldanha. We started badly, we didn´t get the opening and were a step too late everywhere for the first twenty minutes. We were losing battles and were under pressure. But then we got into the game and it was just a question of whether we could cope with a better performance. Unfortunately we couldn´t, although we created some promising opportunities.
Were you happy with the substitutions of Memic, Durosinmi and Doski? Did they liven up the game?
As I´ve said many times before, sometimes players need to get a feel for the pace of the game first, even if it´s just with their heads. We started with players who have experience in this type of game. It didn´t take long for all three of them to get into the game. I think their contribution was positive.
Ferencváros´s biggest threat, Barnabas Varga, was cut for the rematch. Is that an advantage for you?
They have other great players there. Barnabas is one of the top scorers in the Europa League and every team is missing its best striker. But Ferencváros has a wide squad full of quality offensive players. He´s obviously a key figure, but we´ll see if it´s a weakness for them and an advantage for us.
Ferencváros threatened in the second half mostly from breakaways.
Yes, we stressed that we must not get carried away. At half-time we told ourselves that the key was not to score a second goal. We knew that the opponent would rely on counterattacks. We felt we could push them, so the main task was to avoid mistakes that would lead to another goal.
