Viktoria Plzeň faced Swedish side Malmö in their first home game of the Europa League and won 3-0. Matěj Vydra, Rafiu Durosinmi, and Karel Spáčil scored the goals.
European evening returned to Štruncovy sady Stadium, with Swedish side Malmö arriving in Plzeň as the first opponent. Both teams started the match actively, treating spectators to a series of attacking moves. Matěj Vydra could have put Viktoria in the lead when he rushed alone towards the goalkeeper and looked to pass to Rafia Durosinmi beside him. However, goalkeeper Robin Olsen read his intention and thwarted the attack. At the other end, Karel Spáčil shone with an excellent defensive intervention that prevented the attacker from scoring. In the 29th minute, the sound of the crossbar rang out in the stadium when one of the visitors hit it from an angle. However, it was captain Matěj Vydra who opened the scoring when he jumped on a cross and sent Plzeň into the lead with a precise header.
In the 39th minute, Malmö faced another problem. Lasse Johnsen received a second yellow card for a foul on Sampson Dweh and was sent off. Viktoria quickly took advantage of their numerical superiority. Olsen parried a shot in front of him, and the quick-thinking Rafiu Durosinmi made it 2-0.
Even after the break, the home side did not let up. They were particularly dangerous from set pieces. Olsen saved Matěj Vydra's header from one of them, but he had no chance against Karel Spáčil's follow-up. Viktoria led 3-0. In the 58th minute, the number of players on the pitch was evened out when the referee, after reviewing the video, gave Merchas Doski a straight red card. However, this did not unsettle Viktoria, who continued to play actively and strive to keep a clean sheet.
At the end of the match, visiting player Daniel Gudjohnsen received a red card for elbowing Václav Jemelka. Shortly thereafter, the referee ended the match and Viktoria Plzeň celebrated a well-deserved 3-0 victory.
