The contract of the coach Michal Bílek will expire by the end of the 2022/2023 season. The contract will not be extended by the club, so the coach will not continue his work on the Viktoria bench.

Coach Michal Bílek came to Viktoria Plzeň two years ago. He took over the team and managed to bring it to the UEFA Europa Conference League. In the following season he wrote an incredible story of success, as he won the league title with Viktoria and advanced to the Champions League group stage all the way from the second qualification round. Viktoria then faced the European club giants Bayern Munich, FC Barcelona and Inter Milan.

Michal Bílek signed a two-year contract, which will expire by the end of the current season. The contract will not be extended by the club. “First of all, I would like to thank Michal Bílek. He came to us at a time when we were not doing so great, and when we were in big trouble. He managed to mobilize the entire team and save the season for us. In the following year, he brought us to the league title and secured the place in the prestigious Champions League for us,” said the club’s CEO Adolf Šádek.

“All of us experienced an incredibly powerful story with Michal. This story will forever be written in gold in the club chronicles and he, as the head coach, had contributed greatly to such a success. However, we came to a conclusion no to extend his contract and decided to part ways. Based on this decision, we will be also dealing with the situation and future of the other members of the staff at the end of the season,” added Adolf Šádek.

Michal Bílek will lead Viktoria as its coach in all of the remaining FORTUNA:LIGA matches in the final group. “Our goal is clear; we want to finish the league in the best possible way. That means score as many points as possible and secure the third place, which guarantees the European Cups for us in the next season. Last but not least, we want to say goodbye to the season and to the coach Michal Bílek in a respectable way,” concluded Adolf Šádek.
