Thirty-year-old centre-back Denis Vavro joins Viktoria Plzeň from German side VfL Wolfsburg. He signed a two-year contract at the Doosan Arena today.

Slovak side Žilina developed him into a professional footballer. He later played for several prestigious clubs, including Copenhagen and Lazio, experienced Spanish La Liga and most recently wore the colours of German side Wolfsburg. He won the Danish league title three times, also lifted the league trophy with Žilina and won the Italian Super Cup. With the Slovak national team, he reached the round of 16 at EURO 2024. Denis Vavro will now join Viktoria’s Slovak contingent alongside Patrik Hrošovský and others.

“Denis brings a wealth of experience. He has played for big clubs in prestigious competitions and is one of the key players for the Slovak national team. He is the definition of a fighter who leaves everything on the pitch, and those are exactly the qualities we will need during a demanding season,” said the club’s sporting director Martin Vozábal.

“He is a strong leader who has been tested at the highest level. He will definitely help us a lot with the organisation of our play,” added head coach Radoslav Kováč.

“I am looking forward to this challenge! I know Viktoria well and have also played against the club in friendly matches. And of course, I know the boys from the national team very well, including Paťo Hrošovský and Dávid Krčík,” said Denis Vavro after signing his contract.

“My goal is to win every game. That is why I came here, and I like the fact that the club has exactly the same mindset. I want to be successful with Viktoria,” he added.

Welcome to Viktoria, Denis!
