The Victorians faced a difficult task, as they had to make up a three-goal deficit from the first match. Therefore, they wasted no time and immediately threw themselves at the visiting team with the aim of scoring as soon as possible and making the rematch dramatic. The red-and-blues put on a lot of pressure and attacked the Rangers' penalty area from all sides, even trying shots from distance. One of them was taken by Lukáš Červ. The ball flew through the air and the visiting goalkeeper had to work hard to push it away. In the 37th minute, Prince Adu won a duel with the last defender, but his shot missed the goal.
Plzeň finally scored four minutes later. Amar Memić made a great run onto a through ball and, with an individual effort, got to the edge of the six-yard box, where he passed to the unmarked Rafi Durosinmi. He slotted the ball into the open goal. The home side went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
The second half began with the red-and-blues playing actively again. In the 51st minute, Amar Memić shone again, breaking through on the right side into the penalty area and sending a sharp low shot. However, Jack Butland tipped his attempt over the corner flag with his fingertips. Ten minutes later, however, came the moment that none of the home fans wanted to see, as the visitors equalized to make it 1-1.
However, Viktoria did not give up and continued to fight for promotion. Substitutes Milan Havel and Christophe Kabongo had great chances. First, Havel was denied by the goalkeeper, then Kabongo's shot went high over the bar. Prince Adu also failed to capitalize on his opportunities. Finally, Svetozar Marković made no mistake and headed home to make it 2-1. No further goals were scored, so Viktoria recorded their first home win of the new season, but their Champions League journey is over.
