Michal Bílek becomes the new head coach of FC Viktoria Plzeň. The 56-year-old experienced coach has signed a contract with the club until 2023 and will start leading the team in today´s training.
"I am glad that Michal Bílek and us agreed on all the conditions very quickly, and on Monday morning the contract was signed until 2023," said general manager of the club Adolf Šádek. "Our goal now is to give the team a new impulse, to prepare well for the end of the season and of course to improve our game," added Adolf Šádek.
The new coach Michal Bílek met the team for the first time on Monday morning and will then lead the first training session in Luční street. "We agreed quickly, coaching Viktoria is a big challenge for me. We want to manage the end of this season so that we can ensure qualification for European cups for the next one," said Michal Bílek before the first training.
Together with Michal Bílek, Pavel Horváth has been appointed as his assistant. Other members of the coaching staff Marek Bakoš and Matúš Kozáčik remain at their positions.
Michal Bílek is an experienced coach, who most recently managed the national team of Kazakhstan and the FC Astana team. He already appeared in Plzeň at the beginning of 2006-2007 season. He also worked in Jihlava, Zlín, Sparta Prague and Dinamo Tbilisi. In 2009–2013 he was the head coach of the Czech national team, which he got to the quarterfinals of the European Championship in 2012.
