By mutual agreement, Miroslav Koubek´s tenure as coach of Viktoria Plzeň came to an end today. Jan Trousil also left the club. Marek Bakoš has been appointed as interim coach and will be assisted by Zdeněk Bečka.

"After the unsuccessful match against Zlín, which was a big disappointment for all of us and our fans, we had a long discussion with the coach. We came to the conclusion that the team needs a new impulse immediately and agreed to end our cooperation," explained Adolf Šádek, CEO and chairman of the club´s board of directors.

"Logically, we are not satisfied with the results, especially in the league competition, where we lost too many points unnecessarily during ten rounds. Unfortunately, our play has not been ideal in recent matches either. That is why we agreed on the need for a solution within the sports department," added Adolf Šádek. Assistant coach Jan Trousil also left along with Miroslav Koubek.

Marek Bakoš has been temporarily appointed to lead the first team, assisted by Zdeněk Bečka. "We are playing Malmö in the Europa League on Thursday and Hradec in the league on Sunday. These are our two immediate goals, which are now the focus of all our attention. We want to win both matches," said Adolf Šádek.

Miroslav Koubek joined Viktoria in the summer of 2023, marking his third stint at Štruncovy sady. Over the course of two seasons, he led the team to a historic Conference League quarterfinal appearance, followed by a Europa League round of 16 appearance the following year. Under his leadership, the team finished second and third in the domestic competition and reached the final of the domestic cup. Miroslav Koubek was even named Coach of the Year for 2024.

"Miroslav Koubek deserves a big thank you for what he has achieved with the team in two years. Above all, we will all remember both European campaigns for a long time; they were wonderful experiences. So I wish him and Honza Trousil all the best, and we will always be happy to see them at our stadium," concluded Adolf Šádek.

"When I joined the club, I described myself as a transitional coach. In the end, we spent almost two and a half years together, which is quite a long time. We experienced wonderful things. Those European evenings are unforgettable; we managed to compete with giants such as Frankfurt, Manchester United, Bilbao, Fiorentina, and Lazio Rome. We are parting as friends, and I cannot forget the wonderful fans who have shown me great support throughout. Football also has its bad periods, but I believe that the boys will soon overcome them and return to winning ways," said Miroslav Koubek as he said his goodbyes.
