The modernization will ensure that the stadium continues to meet the strictest criteria for hosting international football matches, whether in UEFA European cup competitions or international matches involving the Czech national team.
"We are constantly striving to improve and expand the city´s sports facilities. The football stadium in Štruncovy sady has been the venue for dozens of international matches for many years, so it is necessary to ensure adequate space for them to take place. After improving fire safety and repairing the roof over the main grandstand, we are now expanding the municipal stadium itself, which is the most visited sports facility in our city," says Roman Zarzycký, Mayor of Pilsen.
Viktoria Plzeň has been playing prestigious European cup matches continuously for sixteen years, promoting its city and the entire region not only at home but also abroad. In order for the Municipal Stadium in Štruncovy sady to host these prestigious matches, which undoubtedly include the Czech national football team´s matches, it must continuously meet the increasing demands and criteria resulting from the regulations for international competitions (the highest category IV). These bring new requirements for the stadium infrastructure.

The modifications will require an investment of approximately CZK 140 million from the city budget.
Specifically, the Brána borců building will be expanded and extended. The mobile and temporary facilities currently in use will be replaced by an extension that will be directly connected to the existing spectator stands thanks to a new connecting corridor and two entrances to sectors S and T of the football stadium. The technical facilities and storage areas will also be expanded, and an access and escape corridor with a staircase will be built. In addition, the entire building will be fitted with an extensive roof.
"The city of Pilsen has long been one of our key partners. I consider our mutual cooperation to be very successful, and we have further challenges and goals ahead of us, including the development of the stadium and its infrastructure. We are now taking important steps together to ensure that the stadium continues to meet the most stringent criteria and can host matches at the highest European level," said Adolf Šádek, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of the club.
The project is scheduled to take thirteen months and should be completed by the summer of 2027. The investor is the Infrastructure Management Department of the Pilsen City Council.
