Austrian goalkeeper Florian Wiegele signed a new contract with Viktoria Plzeň today, keeping him with the club through 2029.

The tall goalkeeper Florian Wiegele joined Viktoria two years ago from the Austrian second-division club DSV Leoben. His performances in goal for Viktoria recently earned him his first call-up to the Austrian national team, for which he made his debut in a friendly against Ghana (5-1), and he can now look forward to participating in the upcoming World Cup, for which his team has qualified.

“Florian works hard every day and is living up to the potential he brought with him when he joined the club. His nomination to the national team, which he certainly deserved, confirms my words. Signing a new contract is now the next logical step in our partnership. We’re glad we were able to reach an agreement so quickly,” summarized the club’s sporting director, Martin Vozábal.

“I like it in Pilsen; it’s a peaceful city where I feel good both personally and, of course, in terms of sports. Every match in the Viktoria jersey is a huge experience for me; playing in front of our fans is great!” the 25-year-old goalkeeper states clearly.

“When I arrived, I set a goal for myself to play regularly and work on my game every day. The reward, of course, is the big matches in the Europa League. The same can be said about the national team, which I’ve always secretly dreamed of playing for, and now that dream has come true. The new contract is another challenge for me to keep working hard and help the team,” concluded Florian Wiegele.
