Viktoria Plzeň started its journey in this year´s MOL Cup with a victory. In the third round, it defeated Sokol Lanžhot 6:1 and advanced to the next stage of the competition without any major problems.
p> Right after the referee blew the whistle to start the match, Viktoria began looking for gaps in the home team´s defense. Christophe Kabongo was the first to take a shot, sending the ball toward the goal in the second minute. Sampson Dweh followed suit, but his powerful shot was deflected by one of the defenders for a corner kick. The opening goal of the match was scored by captain Matěj Vydra, who received a beautiful pass into the penalty area from James Bello.Viktoria was the favorite on paper from the start and confirmed its role on the pitch. Most of the game took place in the opponent´s half. In the 25th minute, Christophe Kabongo made it 2-0, scoring his first competitive goal in a Viktoria jersey. Shortly before the end of the first half, James Bello committed a foul in the penalty area and the referee awarded a penalty. Peter Balážik converted it with a powerful shot, and the teams went into the break with the score at 2-1.
The second half began with another active performance by Viktoria. Just three minutes in, Karel Spáčil scored from a corner kick, heading the ball off the crossbar to make it 3-1. A moment later, Matěj Vydra could have added another goal, but he only hit the goal frame. The fourth goal came from James Bell, who scored his first competitive goal for Viktoria.
Substitutes also got on the scoresheet at the end of the match. Rafiu Durosinmi finished off a rebound from the goalkeeper, and Tomáš Ladra scored with a long-range shot into the top corner. Viktoria thus confirmed their role as favorites and won 6-1.
