The start of the match was marked by personal duels, with most of the action taking place in the middle of the pitch. However, an unpleasant situation arose in the 18th minute. After a hard collision, Karel Spáčil had to leave the pitch on a stretcher, unable to continue after being struck in the head. He was replaced by defender Svetozar Marković.
Gradually, Viktoria began to dominate the game, trying to find a gap in Karviná's defense. In the 35th minute, the home team's pressure paid off. Goalkeeper Jakub Lapeš made a mistake in his pass and played the ball straight to Rafia Durosinmi. He converted the chance, although he did not celebrate the goal against his former club. The first half ended with Viktoria leading 1-0.
After the break, Plzeň increased their activity and threatened mainly from set pieces. Václav Jemelka came close to scoring with a header, but Lapeš made a great save. At the other end, home goalkeeper Martin Jedlička also distinguished himself when he saved a solo breakaway by the opponent. In the 67th minute, however, he was unable to stop a rebound after a previous header save, and Karviná equalized 1-1.
Viktoria refused to settle for a draw and continued to press their opponents. Jiří Maxim Panoš had a great chance, but he was unable to beat Lapeš from an angle. The decision came at the very end. In the 90th minute, Merchas Doski was fouled in the penalty area and the referee awarded a penalty. Captain Matěj Vydra stepped up to take the kick and secured a 2-1 victory for Plzeň with an uncompromising shot to the post, keeping the three points at the Doosan Arena.
