Viktoria Plzeň faced German side Freiburg in their next Europa League home game. Neither team managed to score, and the match ended in a goalless draw.
The visitors kicked off the match. Viktoria managed to intercept their attempts well, and the game was initially more about who would make the first mistake. The first chance came in the 5th minute when Amar Memić crossed from the right to Rafia Durosinmi's head, but the visitors' goalkeeper safely covered the shot. Freiburg responded in the 7th minute with a set piece, which Florian Wiegele cleared. After a quick transition across the halfway line, Christian Günter got a shot off, but the Viktoria goalkeeper made another excellent save. A minute later, Matěj Vydra had a shot on goal, but it went just wide. Plzeň also did well defensively, reacting in time to several dangerous situations and not allowing their opponents a clear shot on goal.
After a nice combination between Durosinmi, Vydra, and Červ, the latter had a shot on goal, but missed. Towards the end of the half, the home team briefly celebrated, but their goal was disallowed due to an offensive foul. Cheick Souaré also had several good shots, but the Freiburg goalkeeper saved them all. Matěj Vydra had a huge chance in the 42nd minute, but once again his attempt did not end up in the net. Shortly afterwards, Prince Adu shot from the side, but he also missed narrowly. At the very end of the half, Merchas Doski made a quick break from his own half, but his shot was safely caught by the visiting goalkeeper. The first half ended goalless, with the score at 0-0.
The visitors started the second half more actively, with Jan-Niklas Beste getting a shot on goal. However, the home side then took the initiative, were much more active and had more chances to score, while Freiburg rarely got past the halfway line. In the 58th minute, Amar Memić got a shot off after a successful move, but the visiting goalkeeper saved his attempt. A moment later, Cheick Souaré tried his luck from distance, but his shot went wide.
In the 74th minute, one of the best saves of the match came. After a quick counterattack by Freiburg, one of the visiting players fired a hard shot at the goal, but Florian Wiegele made a fantastic save and pushed the shot away. The home side continued to press forward, but they lacked the luck they needed to score the much-desired goal. Although the game was played at a high tempo until the final minutes, no goals were scored and the match ended in a goalless draw.
